Fractional Controller / CFO

Run the business on numbers, not instinct.

A real close, the numbers that drive the business, and someone to think through decisions with, without the cost of a full-time hire.

Starting at $1,500/month

In your words

Sound familiar?

  • “I’m still the finance department.”
  • “Cash is tight, even in a good month.”
  • “I can’t say which jobs, products, or customers actually make money.”
  • “Every growth decision feels like a guess.”

The cost of waiting

What waiting costs.

Growth puts more weight on the numbers, not less. Without someone watching them closely, the risks get larger as the business does.

  • Running short of cash in the middle of your busiest stretch.
  • Scaling the part of the business that quietly loses money.
  • Outgrowing the bookkeeper, with no one at the next level.
  • Covering the gap with a full-time CFO, at a six-figure salary before benefits.

What changes

Your month, with a finance function behind you.

The books close by the 10th business day, every month. You can plan around it.

Margin reports show which jobs, products, or service lines carry the business, and which ones don’t.

A rolling cash forecast shows a tight month weeks before it arrives. And once a month, you sit down with someone whose job is to understand your numbers.

What’s included

What you get, and what it means for you.

  • Monthly close on a fixed scheduleFinancials you can plan around, on the same day every month.
  • KPI and margin reporting by job, product, customer, or service lineYou put effort into what pays, and fix or drop what doesn’t.
  • Cash flow forecastingYou see a tight month coming and act before it arrives.
  • Inventory and landed cost accountingProduct margins that include what it really cost to get the product on the shelf.
  • Monthly P&L review meetingAn hour each month going through your results line by line, finding where the margin is, and deciding where to grow next.

How it works

From first call to a steady rhythm.

  1. Discovery call

Thirty minutes on the business, the decisions ahead, and what you need from the numbers. No charge.

  2. Proposal

A written scope covering the close, the reports, and the forecast, at a fixed monthly price.

  3. Setup

Over the first month or two: the chart of accounts is tightened, the KPIs are agreed, and the first forecast is built. A Health Check or Cleanup first, if the books need it.

  4. Monthly rhythm

The close by the 10th business day, the reporting package after it, and a P&L review meeting on margin, growth, and what to do next.

Deliverables

What you receive each month

  • Closed financial statements: profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow
  • A KPI report built around the measures that drive your business
  • Margin by job, product, customer, or service line
  • An updated rolling 13-week cash forecast
  • Inventory and landed cost reconciliation, for product businesses
  • A monthly P&L review meeting, about an hour, with written notes and next steps

The monthly review

Inside the meeting

  • Your P&L, line by line. Revenue, cost of goods, and expenses against last month and last year: what changed and why.
  • Where the margin is. Which jobs, products, customers, or service lines earn the most, and which are quietly costing you.
  • Where to grow. Pricing, product mix, or capacity: the moves the numbers support, and the ones they don’t.
  • What happens next. Cash outlook for the coming weeks, decisions to make, and a written list of next steps.

Questions

Common questions

More answers on the FAQ page.

What’s the difference between bookkeeping and controller services?

Bookkeeping keeps your records accurate and closed every month, with a monthly call to walk through the financials. Controller services add a deeper layer: a KPI report, margin by job, product, or customer, a rolling cash forecast, and an hour-long review focused on what drives the business and where to grow.

Does this include the bookkeeping?

It can. If Baywell keeps your books, both are scoped together in one proposal. If your team keeps them, Baywell reviews their work and closes on top of it.

Is this a replacement for a full-time CFO?

For most businesses between roughly $500K and $5M in revenue, yes. You get the close, the reporting, the forecast, and a senior person to think with, at a fraction of a full-time salary.

Do I have to do the Health Check first?

No. It’s a good starting point if you want a full picture before committing, but many owners start controller services directly.
